There's plenty of Nuts in the Bowl

by Pam Shirk, North Carolina, USA

--------------

Just wanted you to know the latest updates with our foolfarm. Tanada has discovered the big blue bowl that I keep various kinds of nuts in during the winter, tried it out as a sleeping place, and found it good. Apparently the peanuts and hazelnuts left in it are like cobblestones on the feet and comfortable as a sort of mattress. I think it would be like a bed of nails, but Tanada loves it. I got some pictures of her in her bowl/bed, but I don't know if they'll come out, as the film is old and I'm an indifferent photographer at best.

Berfert has decided that he must lay on whatever piece of furniture I'm sitting on and Merlin has discovered the joys of my rocking chair. QC loves the brown sofa as she blends in so well, and all four of them love laundry day. I caught them all laying in the pile of clean laundry that was sitting on the love seat waiting for Amanda to put away. When asked why she hadn't done so already, she said that she couldn't take the cats' beds away. I told her that her excuse was weak at best, but I notice that the clothes are still on the loveseat.

I have discovered a way to keep Tanada from letting Merlin chase her all over the house on weekend mornings. Waffles. Tanada loves them and even Merlin threatening her isn't enough to get her to move when she has a piece of waffle. I use either jelly or butter on mine and she loves both. Strawberry jam is preferred over Marmalade or cranberry blends, my two favorites. So I have one waffle with strawberry for us and put cranberry on the other ones. Rob says I spoil her. This is the man that cooked bacon exactly the way that Berfert likes it (barely cooked) the other day. The rest of us prefer our bacon well done.

We've been having a cold spell lately and the cats were lined up in front of the fire this morning as I put wood in the fireplace. We heat the bulk of our house with wood when we're at home and keep the electric heat on for when we're not here. The cats love the fire place. Merlin prefers a perch as close to the fireplace as he can find and still be able to play with his toys. He's finally sharing his computer chip chirpping mouse with the other cats. He was refusing to let them play with it, hid it from them and sat on it when Berfert insisted on wanting to play with it. Then he looked confused when Berfert followed him around to ignore him by sitting with his butt towards Merlin.

You know whoever said that something was more fun than a barrel of monkeys never watched a group of cats having a good time.
