Ollie and Ted - A Cat in a Previous Life

by Beverley, Napier, New Zealand

-----

You should have seen the pair - it was a nauseatingly sentimental reunion. Ollie followed Ted around from bench to bench as he washed down the kitchen. At afternoon tea time the cat positioned himself on Ted's chest with a paw on each shoulder. Ollie yowled and Ted talked back - such intimacy - I felt like an intruder.

Ted managed to avoid the cat's face and took a final gulp of tea. "I was a cat in a previous life," said Ted seriously. "Truly, that's why cats like me so much. Mind you," he went on "Ollie happens to be a very intelligent cat. I'm sure he understands everything I say." The cat was positively drooling at such praise.

I left them then - it was time to get the groceries. As I left Ted was telling Ollie a story. "What do they call an Irishman on a pillion, Ollie?" said Ted. There was silence and then a couple of yowls. "Pat on the back," said Ted. Honestly. I can't stand it!!!!
