As an addendum, I am also irritated by players who try to take advantage of an occasional, forgivable late alert by LHO by removing their last bidding card from the table before requesting an explanation, and then either replacing the card or trying to change their call, as if the laws permit them to do this without recourse to the tournament director.

I can see why a player trying to change his call without recourse to the TD is irritating - and illegal! But as for a player removing their last bidding card from the table before requesting an explanation, aren't they merely trying to protect themselves while thinking about whether they may have been affected by the failure to alert? If they do not remove the bidding card, isn't the next player all too likely to have made a bid by the time they decide they want to call the director, thereby adding an extra layer of complexity to the situation the director has to sort out?

If the bidding goes 1NT P 2 which is alertable in England with every meaning {I think} but the player does not alert it then his opponents have not been misinformed. Yes, there has been a technical violation, for which a PP could be given, but the next player would not be allowed to do anything on a basis of misinformation because he has not been misinformed.

In the current case the player basically knows that 2 was likely to be alertable. In such a case he is not misinformed if he pretends he did not know. He would get no adjustment if he failed to ask, and he is not allowed to change his call.

He did not make his original call "because of misinformation" because he had a perfectly good idea what was going on. Therefore he is not allowed to change it.

The misinformation here is that the 2 Club call was natural. The 2 diamond call was most certainly not based on that misinformation but on the belief that the call was not natural. Therefore I would rule that it can not be changed.
